the intaba institute
The Intaba Institute was born following a visit to South Africa by her founder and CEO, Dr. Murdock Henderson, during the summer of 2007. Upon meeting a little deaf boy in Kwa-Zulu Natal, who goes by the name of Matthew, this plot soon thickened after he learned that thousands of deaf South Africans share a similar plight to his—that of further marginalization and ostracism from mainstream society. Our mission is to help South Africans reverse this trend.
'Intaba' is an indigenous term in several African dialects that means 'mountain.'
This dream will be realized, as a model program for other developing countries, in the Western Cape of South Africa where the National Institute for the Deaf (NID) is situated.
